How to make Black Beans in the Instant Pot

Freshly cooked black beans taste SO MUCH BETTER than canned black beans! They are also less expensive, and more sustainable.

Let’s get started!

Things you'll need

-dried black beans -water -pressure cooker -colander

Rinse the dried black beans under cool water to remove any dust.


Place beans in Instant Pot bowl and cover with at least 2 inches of water.


You do not need to  pre-soak your beans before cooking them in the Instant Pot.

Pressure cook the black beans on high for 25 minutes.


After 40 minutes, let the pressure naturally release for 15 minutes, then manually release the remaining pressure. 

Strain away remaining water, and your black beans are ready to eat!


Good things to know

There are 15.2 grams of protein and 227 calories in 1 cup of cooked black beans. 1 cup dried black beans  2 3/4 cups of cooked beans. There are about 1.5 cups of beans in a can of black beans.
