How to Cook Pinto Beans on the Stovetop

Join me as I teach you how to cook pinto beans on the stovetop. This method is great because you don't need any special equipment.

We'll be using the "quick soak" method to make our pinto beans as fast as possible.   Let's get started!

Step 1

Start by rinsing  the dry pinto beans under cool water.

Step 2

Place the beans in a large pot and cover with 2 inches of water.   Place lid on pot and bring the contents to a boil.  

Allow the beans to boil for 2 minutes.   Then remove from heat and let sit for 1 hour.   This will be the beans quick soak. 

Step 3

After an hour, drain the water and add in fresh water.  Stir in 1 1/2 tsp salt.   Leave uncovered and let simmer for 1-1.5 hours.  

Step 3

Check water level about every 30 minutes and add more as necessary.  Excess water can be drained at the end of cooking if needed.

Step 5

Beans are done when tender and creamy.
